Encouraging and supporting the opportunity of musical growth among the children of our city

OUR MISSION

Our Mission

Our Proud History

On October 12, 1948, at Roosevelt Junior High School in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin the Fond du Lac Music Parents Association was formed in an effort to purchase new high school band uniforms. Their mission was for the purpose of "encouraging and supporting the opportunity of musical growth among the children of our city."

The first president of our organization, Howard Alexander, along with board members and parent members raised approximately $2,000 of the $5,000 needed for uniforms just one month later in November of 1948. Within the following month, area businessmen and organizations donated the remaining funds needed allowing uniforms to be purchased only two months after the birth of the organization!

Continuing to fundraise for the Fond du Lac music programs, on January 22, 1949 the Milwaukee Symphonic Band gave a benefit performance and the local Elks Club sponsored a Carnival after the concert. In 1950, and again in 1953 the Fond du Lac Association of Commerce worked together with Fond du Lac Music Parents to recruit an all-star band from 21 area schools in surrounding communities. A guest conductor from the Ringling Bros. Circus, and the all-star band performed while a Three Ring Circus performed acts on the high school gym floor! A complete sellout for both performances, this event was written about in music trade magazines across the country!

Fond du Lac Music Parents Association continues its proud history today earning and distributing more than $10,000 annually to K-12 band, choir, orchestra, and general music programs in the Fond du Lac School District. In 2018 we celebrated our 70th year supporting music in our community!
